Breckenridge Winter Activities

When you think about Summit County in the winter, skiing and snowboarding is often the first thing that comes to mind.  Many don't realize the amount of fun you can have without ever setting foot on the ski area.  Some other Breckenridge winter activities we have are: dog sledding, ice skating, cross-country skiing, sleigh riding, snowmobiling, fishing, horseback riding, and gold mine tours. Summit County truly is Colorado's Playground.

Dog Sledding
A winter tradition that has been around for hundreds of years, dog-sledding is a fun family-friendly past time enjoyed by many in Summit County. This is a great activity if you love dogs. It is a fun and fast way to tour the countryside in the winter, exposing you to pristine beauty. You will have the chance to interact with the dogs and the mushers while still being out in nature's wonderland.  One and two hour tours are offered.

Kite Boarding
Being Summit County, the fun doesn't stop at the end of the summer season.  Once Lake Dillon is frozen over, Colorado Kite Force is out and playing at their favorite sports - snow kiting, kite skiing and kite snowboarding.  Activities take place at the south end of the lake, just off of Swan Mountain Road and Highway 9.  It's worth a stop, just to watch their colorful kites as they take off from the ice and smooth snow.  Watching them soar into the sky, framed by the snow covered mountains is simply amazing.

Snowmobiling
One of the favorite winter activities in Breckenridge is snowmobiling.  A true backcountry adventure, snowmobiling allows you to really experience the wonder of the Colorado Rockies with the flip of a switch and twist of the wrist.

Whether you choose a 2-Hour Tour over groomed backcountry terrain or a High Adventure Tour through true powder filled back country bowls, everyone is sure to have a great time.  This is a great way to spend some time with the entire family.  So, if you need to rest your legs for a day and want the adventure of a lifetime, snowmobiling is one of the most popular and adventurous experiences to be had during a Breckenridge Colorado vacation!

Nordic Skiing & Snowshoeing
If downhill skiing is not for you, try Nordic skiing or snowshoeing.  These are two unique ways to get out and enjoy Breckenridge in the winter.  You can explore many trails that will guide you through beautiful spruce forests, open meadows, and rolling hills.  This is a great way to take in the brilliant mountain views.

There are two cross country and snowshoeing centers in Breckenridge and both will offer incredible views and fresh air.  Don't worry, if you don't have your own gear or don't know what you are doing, they offer rentals and lessons!

Snowshoeing is a great sport that is inexpensive and is great for your body.  You don't need any experience and you can enjoy this activity with everyone in your family.  If you do not own snowshoes, you can rent them in just about any snow sport shop in Breckenridge.  This has to be one of the simplest ways to enjoy the beautiful landscape of Colorado.

Sleigh Rides
After a long day of skiing, sit back, relax and enjoy a sleigh ride.  Imagine a picturesque snow covered valley nestled under warm blankets in a cozy horse drawn sleigh. Gaze up at the brilliant star filled sky and the dramatic panorama of towering snow capped peaks. A sleigh ride is a perfect activity for couples‚ families or groups and is sure to be an unforgettable experience for everyone. This is an activity all members of your group can participate in, regardless of age or physical ability.
